Stephen M. Skillins
Furniture maker

Stephen M Skillins age 26, grew up in Swampscott Massachusetts and moved to Danvers in 2001 where he attended Danvers High School. After high school Steve went into roof construction and continued roofing for around 10 years but had always wanted to work with wood. After having his first child Steve decided roofing wasn't the best career for him in the long run because of the constant danger and the beating it was doing to him. After a few years of doing woodworking as a hobby Steve met Phil Lowe from Beverly MA and toured The Furniture Institute of Massachusetts and knew right away that was what he needed to excel in the furniture making industry. Phil Lowe had run the furniture making program at North Bennet Street School in Boston MA and taught all the current instructors there. About 20 years ago he branched out on his own and opened a much smaller more one on one school in Beverly. Once Steve was able to work everything out financially he applied to the school and was accepted. Stephen is half way through the 2 year mastery program at The Furniture Institute in Beverly MA where he studies whatever style furniture he desires. The school is a 5 to 6 student full time program run by Phillip C. Lowe which runs Monday thru Friday full time. His current favorite style is the Chippendale period which is what he is currently studying.Stephen likes to spend time with his loving family doing activities such as tennis, soccer, bowling, mini golf and many others.  Stephen is married to his wife Pamela Skillins who is also from Danvers is a preschool teacher at The Learning Experience in Danvers and loves working with children as much as they love her. She enjoys hobbies such as making blankets and scrapbooks. They have 2 beautiful children Colin (age 6) and Isabella (13 months) enjoy spending time together playing. Colin attends 1st grade at Smith Elementary School in Danvers and plays on the youth soccer team. Colin has many other hobbies including his favorite video games. Stephen's daughter Isabella or "Bella"  is starting to talk and is about to start walking on her own.
